Forgotten Remnants

This album is a series of elemental soundscapes curated for the art exhibition "Forgotten Remnants" by Rochelle Summerfield showing at Nulla Nulla Regional Gallery, South Kempsey, NSW from 04 July – 06 September 2025. They are amalgams of previous works produced for four previous albums - Confluence, By the River's Edge We Meet, Listen to the River, and Palimpsest. They represent the individual pieces curated for the Sanctuary Trees depicted by Rochelle in this exhibition. For Air - River Oak and Black Bean, for Water - Grey Mangrove and Water Gum, and for Earth - Forest Red Gum. See previous albums for the original, individual tracks.

Rochelle says: "Forgotten Remnants brings together a series of large-scale drawings and paintings that pay homage to the lives of old trees. These trees, often standing alone and neglected, are silent witnesses and survivors of lost ecological and cultural heritage.

Working directly in the field, I create large-scale tree portraits that are physically infused with the environment. The works carry sediments, mineral stains, and accidental mud marks from the river, ephemeral traces that embed a sense of memory, time, and loss into the substrate itself.

Alongside these works, temporary wall paintings echo the preciousness of these ancient trees. Together, they raise awareness of their ongoing plight and the increasing threat of extinction.

These trees are often unconnected found in the margins of our landscapes: as lone paddock trees, on roadside verges, in neglected riparian corridors, or inaccessible mountain gullies. My work honours their presence and endurance. My work is a tribute to their strength, their role in protecting biodiversity above and below ground, and their generous reciprocity with humans."
